With COVID-19 procedures and precautions changing every day, it can be hard to keep up with Holiday events in Charlottesville! Where can you find events and activities happening and stay up to date with what’s been canceled? We have done the hard work for you! Below we have collected information on holiday events happening in Charlottesville and virtual events to help fill your holiday season with plenty of cheer!

Local Events

Tinsel Trail
In partnership with The Shops at Stonefield, the Junior League of Charlottesville is bringing holiday cheer this season with approximately 100 lighted live holiday trees! This FREE community event runs from November 21st – January 3rd at the Stonefield Green.

Charlottesville Christmas MarketChristmas Market
The Barracks Road Shopping Center will be hosting a Christmas Market on December 5th! The event will feature outdoor festivities throughout the day including two live musical performances, a center-wide sidewalk sale, and a Christmas Tree Sale and Food Drive.

Story Time With Santa
The Junior League of Charlottesville is excited to present the virtual event, Storytime with Santa! The event will occur on December 5th, 6th, 12th & 13th and offer children a way to safely connect with Santa and enjoy a holiday story via Zoom.

Charlottesville Ballet: 2020 Nutcracker Events
The Charlottesville Ballet will be hosting a variety of virtual events to bring the magic of The Nutcracker right to your living room! Class with Clara invites your child take a ballet class live from home with Clara and her friends, on Saturday, December 5th. The Nutcracker Virtual Gala on December 13th will bring together special guests, local musicians, and our company dancers near and far to celebrate the magic of the theater in the comfort of your home! The Nutcracker On Demand will feature a reading of the story of The Nutcracker, accompanied by footage from past Charlottesville Ballet Nutcracker productions, and will be available from December 20th to 27th.

First Night Virginia
Unfortunately, Charlottesville’s Annual First Night Virginia has been officially canceled this year. Stay tuned for next year!

Many of America’s favorite Holiday Events are still happening this year for everyone to enjoy from home!

Thanksgiving ParadeMacy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade
The Annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade will be converted to a made-for-TV spectacle, featuring the larger-than-life balloons, over-the-top floats, and big-name performers! You can watch the parade as always on NBC on Thursday, November 26th from 9am to noon. Or, watch the live stream!

Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree Lighting
Enjoy the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree Lighting on December 2nd with a live national broadcast hosted by NBC to officially mark the start of the Christmas season!

National Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony
Washington D.C’s 98th National Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony and holiday performances will take place on December 3rd on thenationaltree.org.

New York Ball DropNew Year’s Eve Ball Drop in Time Square
The Annual New Year’s Eve Ball Drop in Time Square will also occur virtually this year. You can still countdown the ball drop and pop some champagne in the comfort (and warmth!) of your own home! The event will feature the iconic ball drop countdown, as well as performances and a recap of the year’s events broadcast on television and live stream.
